Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, in the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Clyde James Peters Sr., 91, of Duck Hill, who died on Friday, Sept. 16, in Jackson. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Sunday, Sept. 18, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Clyde was born on April 23, 1931, in Ogalala, Neb., the son of the late Harley and Clara Peters. He joined the United States Navy Reserves on April 13, 1950, and served four years before being honorably discharged. He married Eva Newcomb on Oct. 8, 1952, and moved to the Grenada area in November of that same year.
Clyde worked for many years at Juchheim’s Body Shop in Grenada as an auto body repairman. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Carroll County. Clyde loved his family and he enjoyed working in his garden, cutting his grass and cutting firewood.
In addition to his parents; his wife, Eva; his sisters, Betty Smith, Alice Richards, Shirley Acree, Ethel Williams and Dorlas Carlson, and two brothers, Leonard Peters and Glenn Zametto, preceded Clyde in death.
Survivors include, his daughters, Clara Mae Dowdle of Grenada and Linda Lane of Duck Hill; two sons, Carlton Jerome Peters of Grenada and Clyde James “Buster” Peters of Duck Hill; one brother, Harvey Peters of Fremont, Neb., and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Gideons International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.
