Grenada County Circuit Court is set to begin next week and with more than 30 drug cases on the docket, this term could be a lengthy one.
According to the Grenada County Circuit Clerk’s Office, the fifth circuit court is set to convene on Monday, Jan. 11, at the Grenada County Courthouse.
Grenada County Circuit Clerk Michele Redditt-Garcia said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, safety precautions will be taken to keep the courtroom safe such as social distancing and mask requirements.
According to the recently released court calendar, dozens of drug cases ranging from possession of cocaine and marijuana to possession of methamphetamine will all be heard by Circuit Judge Joseph Loper Jr. Of those cases, 21 are possession of methamphetamine.
Of the pending cases, several are first-degree murder charges. They include:
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Quartavious Brewer: Brewer is charged with first-degree murder. The case is in connection with the July shooting death of 36-year-old Mark Denton.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Fadarius Winston: Winston is charged with first-degree murder. The case is in connection with the March 2019, shooting death of Isiaha Triplett near Washington Street.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Travon Golden: Golden is also charged with first-degree murder.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Ayana George: George is charged with first-degree murder. The case is in connection with the March 2020, shooting death of Quentin Williams on Gayoso Street.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Monique Lott: Lott is charged with first-degree murder.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Mack Lott: Mack Lott is charged with first-degree murder.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Marquize Tillman: Tillman is charged with first-degree murder.
- Tillman and both Lotts were indicted for first-degree murder in connection with the November 2017, death of Willie Hooper. Hooper’s body was discovered in a well just off Highway 404 at three days after he was reported missing by his family.
- In the State of Mississippi vs. Cedrick Tillman: Tillman is charged with first degree murder. The case is in connection with the September 2016, shooting death of Shaquille Burns on Lamb Road.
- In the State vs. Toddric Crawford: Crawford is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Crawford’s charges are connected with the October 2017, shooting death of Alexander Farmer on Adams Street.
- In the State vs. Craig Williams: Williams faces first degree murder and aggravated assault in the case. Williams’ charges are connected with the October 2017, shooting death of Alexander Farmer on Adams Street.
According to the calendar, court is expected to run through the first week of February.
