A graveside gathering will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in the Baker family plot in Mars Hill Cemetery near Duck Hill for Mr. Charles Glen Baker Jr., 76, of Senatobia, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, in Memphis, Tenn. The Rev. Ryan Dean will officiate. Family and friends are invited to join the funeral procession, which will depart from McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20.
Charles was born on Oct. 5, 1947, in Grenada, the oldest child of the late Charles Glen Sr. and the late Mary Ellen Landreth Baker. He attended school in Grenada and graduated from North Panola High School. He spent most of his career as a cattleman where he could enjoy spending time on the land. He also enjoyed a lengthy career at the Tate County Co-Op in Senatobia where he could share his knowledge of feed, grass, chemical and seed. Charles enjoyed collecting coins, learning about history, trains and watching sports. Charles, being generous and thoughtful, loved giving gifts.
Survivors include, his sister, Deborah Baker Knight (Hugh Allen) of Oxford; niece, Miriam Knight Hobson (John) of Oxford and three great nieces, Mary Landreth, Rachel Sherman and Rebekah Allen Hobson.
The family wishes to extend its deepest thanks to Charles’ friends in Senatobia, especially the Gary Meeks family, the Michael Massey family, the Herbert Whalen family and the staff at the Tate County Co-Op. The family is also thankful for the care given by the doctors, nurses and staff at Methodist University Hospital where Charles was made comfortable in his last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Mars Hill Cemetery Fund or the Regents School of Oxford Building Fund, 14 CR 130, Oxford, MS 38655.
