Following a 4-1 vote Tuesday night, the Grenada School District Board of Trustees voted to accept the recommendation to hire Brooks Oakley as Grenada High School’s new football coach. Oakley replaces Michael Fair, who resigned last month to take head coaching position at South Panola High School.
Oakley spent the last four years at South Panola High School where he complied a 35-12 record, winning Class 6A, Region 1 titles in 2023 and 2025. His other head coaching stint came from 2016-22 at his alma mater, Senatobia High School. In six seasons, Oakley was 55-21 with three region championships as well as a North Half title and Class 4A State Title Game berth in 2021.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome coach Brooks Oakley to lead the Grenada High School football program,” GSD Athletic Director Dr. Lyle Williams said. “Throughout our search, we remained committed to finding a leader who has both high character and a proven track record of success. In Coach Oakley, we have found both.”
GSD Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault echoed Williams’ sentiments.
“After a thorough search, we are proud to select Coach Brooks Oakley as our new head football coach,” he said. “He arrives with an exceptional reputation, not just for winning, but for building strong character in his players. His dedication to putting students first and his collaborative approach to teamwork align perfectly with our District’s values.”
Oakley said that he is excited about coming to Grenada.
“I’m excited about the opportunity that Dr. Daigneault, Dr. Williams and the committee have given me to lead this football program,” he said. “I grew up in a football family. I am looking forward to getting to work, building relationships with players, coaches, faculty and student body. I have been taught all my life to treat everyone the same.”
The Tate County native inherits a team that finished 7-4 last season, lost in the first round of the Class 5A State Playoffs and incurred several key graduation losses as they prepare for the 2026 season.
Oakley and his wife, Linsey, have been married for 16 years. They are parents of daughters, Finley (13) and Nora (11), and son, Lincoln (7).
