Following a powerful storm system that cut a path of destruction through parts of the South Friday night killing at least 24 in Mississippi and one in Alabama, recovery efforts in several towns began at daybreak and will continue for days and weeks to come.
The Radio Stations in Grenada is partnering with Bennett Trucking and MS Freight Co. in Grenada to deliver bottled water to areas of the state with significant damage from the tornadoes.
“We will have a trailer parked in front of The Radio Stations Sunday through Tuesday for donations,” Marah Evans Bennett with The Radio Stations said Saturday morning.
According to Bennett, the water will be delivered on Wednesday to Rolling Fork and Silver City, two Mississippi towns hit hardest by the tornadoes.
Nearest to Grenada County, three of the deaths occurred in Carroll County, according to Coroner Mark Stiles. Damage is widespread from Winona to Black Hawk and Amory, which received substantial damage as well. Other areas along the path of the storm also received damage.
Bottled water donation drop off times are as follows:
• Sunday, March 26: Noon until 5 p.m.
• Monday, March 27: 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
• Tuesday, March 28: 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
