Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, in the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Birkie Nita Milam Smith, 88, of Grenada, who died on Friday, Feb. 14, in Jackson. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the funeral home.
Nita was born on Nov. 15, 1936, in Cascilla, the daughter of the late Curtis Easley Milam and the late Catherine Mitchell Milam. She was employed by Pennaco Hosiery Mill as an inspector until her retirement. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Grenada.
In addition to her parents, her husbands, Billy Pryor, Herbie Newcomb and Benny Smith; one son, Herbie Newcomb Jr.; her sister, Kay Hubbard, and her brothers, Curtis Milam Jr., Jerry Milam and Johnny Milam, preceded Nita in death.
Survivors include, one son, Robert Earl Newcomb; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
