Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Grenada for Mr. Billy Wayne Woods, 93, of Grenada, who entered his heavenly home on Sunday, Jan. 5, from his residence after a short illness. Burial followed in Winona Garden of Memory.
Billy was born on March 10, 1931, in Sweatman, the son of the late Lura Belle and the late Robert E. Woods. He graduated from Alva High School, Mississippi Delta Community College and served with the Army during the Korean War. During his lifetime, Billy held several jobs yet worked primarily in the auto industry. He retired from Earl McKay, Inc., as a salesman after many years. Afterward he started his own business, Woods Blinds and Shutters, and retired from this at the young age of 92.
Billy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Grenada. He was an ordained deacon, served in the adult choir for 40-plus years and served on various church committees.
In addition to his parents, one brother, Larry Woods, preceded Billy in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 69 years, Martha Swindoll Woods; children, Scott (Lea) and Debra Woods; one brother, Joe Woods of Grenada; three grandchildren, Raven Phillips (Wesley), Jared Woods (Mary Catelin) and Lauren Anderson (Richie) and eight great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill Daly, Jerry Dinkelacker, Andy Hollingsworth, Wesley Phillips, Joe Sutherland, Steve Woods, Charlie Woods and Jared Woods. Charles Davis served as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Choir Fund.
