Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Yalobusha County for Ms. Bettye Ann Gray Tritt, 89, of Coffeeville, who died on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Charleston. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Truman Scarborough officiated. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday evening, Jan. 27, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the church.
Bettye was born on March 23, 1935, in Yalobusha County, the daughter of the late James Powell and the late Clara Virginia Elizabeth Harrison Gray. She was a devoted homemaker and a faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She had also worked at Pepper Rite in Memphis, Tenn., and later at Kellwood in Coffeeville. Bettye will long be remembered for her sweet demeanor and the deep love and devotion she had for her family.
In addition to her parents, her brothers, James William Gray and Henry Dean Gray, preceded Bettye in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Lawanda Tharpe and Dawn Tritt, both of Coffeeville; son, Ronnie Tritt (Amanda) of Grenada; sister, Shirley Edwards of Coffeeville; eight grandchildren, Shannon Tritt, Nicole Fleming, Kevin Tritt, Kenneth Tharpe, Dalton Hughes, Keifer Hughes, Hannah Allbritton and Parks Wilbourn; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Grandsons honored Bettye by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in Pine Grove Cemetery. Gaylon Gray, David Spann, Holly Dukes, Hannah Griffin, Ally Towles, Wanda Shaw-Terry, Justin Brunson, Wendy Hodge, Karlee Manues and Dianne Brewer served as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
