Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Winona for Mrs. Betty Sue Nelms King Shirley, 81, of Vaiden, who died on Monday, Oct. 7, in Winona. Burial followed in Michie Cemetery near Vaiden. The Rev. John Lumbley officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shirley was born on June 30, 1943, in Arkansas, the daughter of the late John and the late Emma Streeter Nelms. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church near Vaiden.
In addition to her parents, her husbands, Walter “Bud” King and Peter Shirley; her son, Walter Earl “Walt” King, and six brothers, preceded Mrs. Shirley in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Janice James (Jason) of Vaiden; sisters, Kathy Greenwood (Terry) and Marcelle Buckner (Jerry), all of Hamburg, Ark.; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
