Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at Emmanuel Baptist Church for Beatrice T. Collins, 98, who died on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the church.
Mrs. Collins was born on Sept. 18, 1924, the daughter of the late Armstead and Ruth Duncan Taylor. She was the youngest of 10 children and is the last surviving sibling. She married Raymond Compton Collins on Oct. 17, 1942, just days before he had to go overseas during WWII. They raised three children, Linda Collins Davis (Charles), David Raymond Collins and Gary Guy Collins (Paula). Their son, David passed away in 2002.
“Moma Bea,” as she was called by everyone, had eight precious grandchildren that she dearly loved, Melissa Tollison Henson, Jeffrey Myron Tollison, David Raymond Collins II, Elizabeth Collins Rice, Benjamin Bryan Collins, Brady Lamar Collins, Leslie Davis Shurden and Charles F. Davis Jr. She leaves behind 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Collins was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church when it was established in 1951, where she worked as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, a member of WMU and also worked with children’s Sword Drill. She was a very dedicated Christian lady, who put God, church and family first in her life.
In addition to her parents, her sisters, brothers, husband, son and one great grandchild, Grace Taylor Tollison, preceded Mrs. Collins in death.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Sta Home Health Agency and Accent Hospice Care for the special care of “Miss Bea.” Also, a big thanks to her sitters, Pearline, Rosie, Gay and Tara, who showed her so much love and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
