Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada for Mrs. Barbara Cooper “Bobbie” Vance, 92, of Grenada, who died on Wednesday, May 25, at her daughter’s residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Chuck Provine and Dr. Brent Barker officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, May 28, at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Bobbie was born on April 24, 1930, in Webster County, the daughter of Robert Lee and Clarice Dunlap Cooper. She lived a full, vibrant life and enjoyed many years of serving the public as a cosmetologist and florist. She worked as a beautician in Grenada for more than 60 years – 54 of those years she was the staff beautician at Grenada Health and Rehab where she lovingly cared for and created strong bonds with the residents there. She also owned and operated Grenada Flower Shop for more than 33 years during which time she taught floral design at Holmes Community College.
Aside from her work life, Bobbie was very involved in community activities and enjoyed being active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active and devoted charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Her parents; husband, Fred Hill Vance Sr.; two sisters, Betty Bolen and Billie Costilow, and two brothers, Robert Cooper and Walter Cooper, preceded Bobbie in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Sherry Vance Provine (Chuck) of Grenada, Freida Vance Easley (Roger) of Cleveland, Ginger Vance Toombs (Warren) of Grenada and Wanda Costilow Sparks (Richie) of Grenada; her son, Fred Hill “Freddie” Vance Jr. (Debbie) of Grenada; two sisters, Jerri Minga of Grenada and Mary Earl Mayhan of Olive Branch; grandchildren, Jason Provine, Barbie Provine Barton, Candice Fioranelli, Brandon Vance, Seth Sparks, Anna Grace Toombs, Haley Easley, Sam Easley, Candice Melton and Michelle Whiteside; 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Josh Mills, Dusty McKibben, Jason Provine, Seth Sparks, Brandon Vance and Hudson Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Cohen Barton and Warren Toombs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Baptist Children’s Village or Emmanuel Baptist Church.
