Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada for Mrs. Anona Yvonne Harvey Stewart, 91, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, July 12, in Grenada. Burial followed in Duck Hill Cemetery. Dr. Johnny Hutchison and Dr. Brent Barker officiated. Family and friends gathered from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday, July 15, at the church.
Mrs. Stewart was born on Dec. 25, 1930, in Poplarville, the daughter of Hubert and Helen Louise Ray Harvey. She was the widow of the late Rev. Donnie L. Stewart to whom she enjoyed 67 years of marriage with until his death in 2015. She was the model pastor’s wife having served alongside him at Lake Como Baptist Church, Ted Baptist Church, Hebron Baptist Church, Duck Hill Baptist Church, Indianola Second Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Coffeeville and First Baptist Church of Holly Springs. They also served the Lord through missions including trips to South Africa, Hawaii and the Holy Land.
Mrs. Stewart’s love for her family came second only to her love for the Lord. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was a fierce prayer warrior for all those that she loved.
Her parents; husband, the Rev. Donnie L. Stewart; two brothers, Bobby Harvey and Bill Harvey, and one great grandson, Benjamin Leseur Evans V, preceded Mrs. Stewart in death.
Survivors include, her children, Sheila Stewart Kirk (Roger) of Duck Hill, Donnie Lamont Stewart Jr. (Susan) of Memphis, Tenn., Steven Andre Stewart (Lucinda) of Memphis, Tenn., and Celina Roxanne Harrison (Kenny) of Grenada; sisters, Enda Mitchell, Pam Nuccio and Gussie Buckalew, all of Derby, Sharon Ladner of Pass Christian and Charlotte Pharaon of Camas, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, Ashlee Alaine Kirk (Robin Redd), Roger Adam Kirk (Amy), Britney Allyson Harrison (Brad), Jordan Clark Stewart, Spencer Elliott Stewart, Joshua Lee Stewart (Lee), Andrea Nicole Pittman (Aaron), Olivia Ruth Hackett (Mark), Benjamin Leseur Evans IV (Nicole), Ryan Stewart Evans (Shana) and Philip Andrew Evans (Kaitlyn); 17 great grandchildren, Christian Stewart, Audrey Stewart, Ethan Stewart, Milo Pittman, Emma Kirk, Caroline Kirk, Ava Kirk, Mary Alden Kirk, Drew Kirk, Kirk Harrison, Lee Harrison, Johanna Harrison, Rowan Evans, Maclane Evans, Easton Evans, Ezra Hackett and Eva Hackett.
Mrs. Stewart’s grandsons honored her by serving as pallbearers and carrying her to rest in Duck Hill Cemetery.
