Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Ms. Anna Mitchell Byrd, affectionately known as “RuRu,” 80, of Grenada, who died on Sunday, Jan. 5. Burial followed in the Mitchell Family Plot in Smith Cemetery in Tallahatchie County. The Rev. Bobby Irvin and the Rev. Eugene Heimbach officiated. The family received friends from noon until service time on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at McKibben and Guinn.
Anna was born on Feb. 28, 1944, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Travis Leroy and the late Ruthie Alberta Lance Mitchell. She enjoyed a career spanning more than 31 years with Scott Petroleum. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her brothers, Travis L. Mitchell Jr. and James Oscar Mitchell, preceded Anna in death.
Survivors include, three daughters, Denise Bailey (Carl Marascalco) of Grenada, Debbie Irvin (Bobby) of Etta and Mary Helms (John) of Clearwater, Fla.; sister, Linda Jones of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Scotty Bailey of Holcomb, Hunter Irvin (Sydney) of Brentwood, Tenn., Lauren Smith (Brian) of Holcomb, Zack Helms of Clearwater, Fla., Brady Helms of Orlando, Fla., and Avery Helms of Tampa, Fla., and four great grandchildren, Abby Bailey, Ava Smith, Gavin Bailey and Hunt Smith.
Scotty Bailey, John Helms, Zack Helms, Hunter Irvin, Coy Jones, Carl Marascalco and Brian Smith honored Anna by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in the Smith Cemetery.
