Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Agnes Boydstun Worrell, 103, of Grenada, a longtime resident of Ackerman, who died on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Grenada. Burial followed at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, Nov. 22, at McKibben and Guinn.
Agnes was born on Aug. 26, 1922, in Winston County, the daughter of the late John H. Boydstun and the late Lena Jackson Boydston. Shortly after World War II, B.L. “Red” Worrell Sr. married his wife and partner for life, Agnes Boydstun Worrell. Their marriage lasted more than 62 years until his death in 2006.
The couple was co-owners of Worrell Oil Distributors in Ackerman and operated the business for more than 40 years. They both were very active at Ackerman Baptist Church where Red was a deacon and she taught teenage girls in Sunday school for 15 years.
Agnes possessed a great love for children and waited more than 10 years to have children of her own. God then blessed her with two sons. Much like Hannah in the Bible, she dedicated them to the Lord’s service and both were called into full-time Christian ministry, and have actively served the Lord for more than 50 years.
Agnes was a prayer warrior and could be found reading her Bible every evening before bed. She taught God’s word to her sons from an early age, reading Bible stories to them every night and spending time listening to their prayers. An experience that both sons realized made a difference in their lives and will always treasure.
In retirement, Agnes and Red became active in Campers on Mission and for the next 15 years participated in building many of the facilities at Central Hills Baptist Assembly in Kosciusko. They also built or renovated several mission churches in Arizona and Florida.
Shortly after her husband’s death, Agnes moved to Grenada where she became active at Emmanuel Baptist Church and was blessed to make many new friends in the church, the community and at Providence Independent Living, and later at Providence Assisted Living.
She was greatly loved and cared for by Kenny and Becky Adams, along with their family in her early years in Grenada, and later by the outstanding staff of Providence Assisted Living.
In addition to her parents and husband, her sisters, Lillian Dillworth, Evelyn Stroud, Elizabeth Bagwell, Rita VonKohn and Helen Boydstun, and brothers, Lamar Boydstun and Homer Boydstun, preceded Agnes in death.
Survivors include, her two sons, Bruce Lavel Worrell Jr. (Gloria) and James Barry Worrell (Jane); grandchildren, Andrea Miley (Donny), Rebekah Worrell (P.J. Richoux), Clare Rodgers (Nick), Thomas “Deke” Worrell (Evelyn), Whitney Kersting (Jesse) and Sasha Jackson, and great grandchildren, Krista Iglehart, Leah Miley, Maddie Worrell, Kaelie Miley, Marlee Worrell, Harper Rodgers, Sawyer Rodgers, Tanner Rodgers and Mayleigh Worrell.
In her final weeks, Agnes was lovingly cared for by the staff of Adoration Hospice. The family would like to express our great love and appreciation to each of those special individuals who loved and cared for our mother.
Finally, the family wishes to express its deep appreciation to her doctor, Todd Lee; Brittany Hobbs, his nurse, and the staff at Grenada Family Medicine who took great care of their mother throughout the 17 years she resided in Grenada.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Ackerman Baptist Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry or Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge, La., at 10560 Airline Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 for Bro. Bruce Worrell’s continued International Ministry.
