Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Vonda Suzanne “Sue” Needham Mays, 80, of Grenada, who died on Monday, Aug. 21, at her residence. Family and friends gathered from 2 p.m. until service time on Friday, Aug. 25, at McKibben and Guinn.
Sue was born on March 14, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jack and the late Maedell Gaylord Needham. She worked for many years as a dispatcher for the Grenada Police Department and later as a municipal court clerk for the City of Grenada. She was a member of Hardy Baptist Church and enjoyed reading and studying the Bible in her spare time.
A gifted seamstress, Sue enjoyed sewing and sharing her talent with those she loved. In their early retirement years, Sue and her husband, Sterling, enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle having visited all of the lower 48 states. Sue was seldom found sitting idle, she loved to paint and perform light remodeling in her home. Her loved ones will cherish her memory for generations to come.
In addition to her parents, her son, Mark H. Gray, preceded Sue in death.
Survivors include, her husband of 42 years, Sterling R. Mays; daughters, Stephanie McDonald (Stacy) of Gore Springs and Kimberly McDurmon (Johnny) of Grenada; six grandchildren, Cody Tharpe, Kevin Gray, Phillip Gray, Cameron Turner, Krystian Campbell and Alli McElroy and a host of great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Robert Gary Laster, Stacy McDonald, B.J. Melton, David Mosley and Barry Rogers.
