The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently announced that Grenada Lake will host a special dove hunt Sept. 9-10.
The hunt this year will be a draw hunt and will be held in two separate locations with a total of 40 drawn participants being selected. Hunt Area 1 is located north of Hwy. 332 between the Grenada Lake Dam and the Grenada Airport. Hunt Area 2 is located at the Grenada Waterfowl Refuge near Sabougla. In addition, Hunt Area 1, between Grenada Lake dam and the Grenada airport, will be open to the public for dove hunting from Sept. 11-30.
To be eligible for this hunt, individuals must possess a valid Mississippi hunting license. Youth hunters, under the age 16, are not required to possess a hunting license, however, they must hunt in the same location as a licensed adult. Exceptions include youth hunters, ages 12-15, who have completed a hunter’s education course and possess a valid hunter’s education card.
Registration for the hunt is this week, Aug. 21-25, 2023, at the Grenada Lake Visitor Center. In-person registration is required.
Once drawn, each participant will receive a hunting packet with a map of the area and the regulations for the hunt. Grenada Lake is excited to continue this opportunity to kick off the fall hunting seasons.
• Drawn applicants will be notified of their appropriate time and hunting date.
• Any missing or false information will result in a rejection of the application.
• All State and Federal small game regulations will be enforced.
• Hunting with shotguns only.

Grenada Lake will also host its annual Special Archery Hunt this year. There will only be one designated archery area for hunters this season. Hunters will have the option to use crossbows, compound bows, as well as traditional archery equipment. Registration for the hunt begins Aug. 29, at the Visitor Center at Grenada Lake. The designated hunting zone is listed below.
Archery Only Area: The Corps Property located on the South side of Old Hwy. 8 between 333 Restaurant & Wolf Creek hollow. This area will be open from Sept. 30, 2023- Jan. 31, 2024.
Hunters that register for the Special Archery Hunt will receive a packet containing all the rules and regulations as well as detailed maps of each designated area. The objective of this hunt is to reduce the doe population in order to minimize habitat degradation and to gather data pertaining to the deer herd.
