The Kirk Academy Raiderettes headed into the final non-division soccer match against Starkville Academy last week looking to gain some needed momentum heading into the division opener this week at home against Indianola Academy.
Again, there were some bright spots and some areas that Kirk had problems. In the end, Starkville won a 5-1 decision with Kirk’s lone goal coming from a goal from Starkville.
In the junior varsity game, Kirk lost a 2-1 decision with the goal coming from Abbie Mattox,
“Again, we didn’t play very good,” coach Chris Wilkinson said. “We are still learning to find our identity as a team. A lot of the problems fall on me and we are going to get better.”
Wilkinson got some quality minutes from his junior varsity players in the varsity contest.
“We put some of our junior varsity players in the varsity game and they performed well,” he added. “They did a lot of good things.”
