Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Grenada for Mr. Thomas Henry “Tom” Carroll Jr., 85, of Grenada, who died on Thursday, Aug. 10, at his residence. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Dr. John Boler and Dr. Jim Nunnelee will officiate. The family received friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada and will again one hour prior to the service on Monday, Aug. 14, at First Baptist Church.
Tom was born June 24, 1938, in Grenada, the son of the late Thomas Henry Sr. and the late Dorothy Pegg Carroll. An active member of First Baptist Church, Tom served in numerous capacities in the church through the years including, chairman of deacons and Sanctuary Choir member. Tom was a graduate of John Rundle High School and Mississippi State University. He also furthered his education through graduate courses from the University of Wisconsin, University of Oklahoma and Harvard University.
Always very civic minded, Tom previously served on the board of directors of the Grenada County Chamber of Commerce and Grenada County Economic Development Foundation. He was also past president and member of the board of the Grenada Country Club as well as a 25-year member and past director of the Grenada Kiwanis Club. Tom enjoyed a career spanning more than 39 years in the banking industry. In 1962, he joined the Grenada Trust and Banking Company, which later merged with Bank of Mississippi. In the early 1980s, Tom was offered the opportunity to join the team at Sunburst Bank and stayed there through the transitions to Union Planters and ultimately retiring in 2001 from Regions Bank. An avid outdoorsman, Tom was a lifelong member of the Teoc Timber Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Tommie Gene Carroll, and one grandson, Nathan Daniel Carroll, preceded Tom in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Judy Carroll; son, Charles Carroll (Christin) of Olive Branch and two grandchildren, Matthew Jackson Carroll and Jonathan Day Carroll, both of Blue Springs.
Pallbearers will be Coley Bailey, Bill Daly, Roger Dale Goodson, Harry Lott Jr., David McElwrath and Robert McElwrath.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Grenada Building Fund or to the Downs Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South.
