Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Holcomb Baptist Church for Mrs. Linda Elizabeth Weir Smith, 76, of Holcomb, who died on Saturday, May 4, at her residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada. The Rev. David Haggerty and the Rev. Kevin Tribble officiated. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday evening, May 6, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, May 7, at Holcomb Baptist Church.
Linda was born on Aug. 13, 1947, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Louis Trout Sr. and the late Clarice Fite Weir. She enriched the lives of many children as she worked as a teacher’s assistant and later as a substitute teacher in the Grenada School District. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and previously was a member of the Grenada Garden Club. Linda possessed a unique artistic ability and enjoyed painting and arranging flowers. She was a devoted member of Holcomb Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities, most recently with the church food pantry. She also enjoyed having been involved in the North Mississippi Walk to Emmaus.
Linda will long be remembered as a woman who loved the Lord. She was a strong prayer warrior who was always willing to share her faith with anyone. While our hearts are saddened by her passing, we find comfort in knowing she held in her soul the cure to death, a relationship with Jesus Christ.
In addition to her parents, one granddaughter, Velouria Smith-Proctor; her sister, Jean Weir Liles; and her brothers, Louis Trout Weir Jr. and Ray Weir, preceded Linda in death.
Survivors include, her husband of 49 years, Larry Smith; daughter, Shelley Smith of Savannah, Ga.; two sons, Larry Weir Smith (Stephanie) of Grenada and Robert Smith (Scarlett) of Holcomb; four grandchildren, Remington Smith, Case Smith, Ben Smith and Abby Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Linda was carried to rest by those honored to serve as pallbearers including, Ben Liles, Ben Smith, Case Smith, Larry Weir Smith, Remington Smith and Robert Smith. James Carroll, John Liles and Frank Weir will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Operation Christmas Child at Holcomb Baptist Church.
