Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, in the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Joseph Lamar Burks, 91, of Grenada, who died on Friday, Nov. 1, at his residence. Burial will follow in Grenada Memorial Gardens. Bro. Ken Salley will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Joseph was born on June 20, 1933, in Panola County, the son of the late Phillip Elijah Burks and the late Ledia Gross Burks. He was employed by Gray Little Construction Company as a foreman until his retirement. He attended Grenada Church of God
In addition to his parents, his wife, Cynthia Jane Rotenberry Burks; one sister, Freddie Howe, and seven brothers, Jake, Marshall, James, Johnny, Charlie, Bobby and Ed, preceded Joseph in death.
Survivors include, his daughters, Monica Hood (Carl) of Grenada and Lisa Cooper (Don) of Lake Cormorant; three sisters, Inez Ross of Tucson, Ariz., Margaret Simmons of Grenada and Ann Pittman of Batesville; seven grandchildren, Kenny Hood (Beth), Nikki Wortham (Lee), Andy Merryman, Alyssa Allen (Shawn), Brittney Dingman (Jeff), Laura Watkins (Adam) and Evan Merryman (Sarah); 19 great grandchildren, Jenny, John, Baleigh, Tucker, Averi, Scottie, Porter, Sailor, Lennox, Cayden, Abella, Rose, Grace, Seren, Saven, Bishop, Szoriah, Juna, and Arlo, and his loving dog, Sadie.
