Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada to honor the life of Mr. Joe Edwin Collins, 77, of Grenada, who died on Friday, June 14, in Germantown, Tenn. Following the service, Mr. Collins was laid to rest in Providence Cemetery in Gore Springs. The service was officiated by the Rev. J. Barry Worrell. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, June 18, at McKibben and Guinn.
Joe was born on Aug. 7, 1946, in Grenada. He was a gifted orator with a strong voice and used this to his advantage in his career as a radio announcer. He also owned City Cab Company for several years and was involved in several other business endeavors. Joe also dutifully served as a reserve deputy with the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office. A classic car enthusiast, he enjoyed all aspects of his era’s fine automobiles. He also enjoyed racing and was a devoted animal lover. Joe loved Jesus and he was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
His mother, Fannie Collins Veazey, and two sisters, Shirley Smith and Sue Gray, preceded Joe in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 46 years, Judy Milam Collins; two daughters, Misty Finkley (Jerry) of Grenada and Tammy Collins (Tim) of Covington, Tenn.; son, Kevin Colllins (Brenda) of Carrollton; one sister, Patsy Stone of Ackerman; 10 grandchildren, Josh Collins, Kira Finkley, Emily Finkley, Taylor Crider, Tyler Crider, Tia Crider, Taya Crider, Tara Crider, Tanner Crider and TJ Crider as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Josh Collins, Tyler Crider, Adam Milam, Ken Milam, Randall Stone and Thomas Stone.
