Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Enon Baptist Church for Mr. J.A. Hoop, 89, of Grenada, who died on Monday, June 3, at his residence. Burial followed in Broom Cemetery near Coffeeville. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, June 5, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, June 6, at Enon Baptist Church.
J.A. was born on Jan. 21, 1935, in Tillatoba, the son of the late Rual Vernon and the late Elnora Jones Hoop. He enjoyed a long career at McQuay/Heatcraft in Grenada retiring as a group leader with 46 ½ years of service. He was also a devoted member of Enon Baptist Church. Mr. Hoop enjoyed working on cars, rebuilding motors, wood working, welding and bird hunting. He will long be remembered as a hardworking, determined man who was a devoted family man and a loyal friend.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, R.V. Hoop, Gerald Hoop and Clark Hoop, preceded J.A. in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Spurgeon Hoop; daughter, Christy Walters of Grenada; son, Jeffrey Hoop of Grenada; three grandchildren, Laken Hoop, Jonathan Hoop (Kayla) and Kelsey Goff; three great grandchildren, Marlee Raney, Bradley Hoop and Rylee Adams; sister, Alice Buice; sisters-in-law, Doris Knight (Kenneth) and Brenda Hoop and a host of nieces and nephews.
Barry Hoop, Chris Hoop, Darryl Hoop, David Hoop, Lee Hoop and James Stewart honored J.A. by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Broom Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Enon Baptist Church.
