Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in the Womble Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston for Evelyn Clolinger Gentry, 84, who died on Sunday, June 4, in Grenada. Burial followed in Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. The Rev. Shelly Scallions officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday, June 7, at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born on May 13, 1939, the daughter of the late Virginia Clolinger and Ernest Clolinger. She was a member of Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Willie Gentry; her son, Willie Lane Gentry; one brother, Danny Clolinger, and one great grandson, preceded Evelyn in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Lucy “Neacy” Houston (Erwin) of Charleston and Teresa Byars of Arkansas; her sisters, Bonnie Porter of Brazil and Fannie Hamblin of Ruleville; four brothers, Clyde Clolinger, Marvin “Buddy” Clolinger, Billy John Clolinger (Alice) and Charles Clolinger (Nancy), all of Charleston; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in memory of Jayden Adams, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
