A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada for Mr. Maurice Edwin Williamson, 87, of Grenada, who died on Thursday, May 30, at his residence. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael. The Rev. Tim McCaffrey will officiate. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service on Friday, June 7, at Friendship Baptist Church.
Maurice was born on April 29, 1937, in Carrollton, Ga., the son of the late Fred Thomas and the late Velma Smith Williamson. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. During his time in the Air Force, Maurice felt a strong call on his life to Christian evangelism and preached the gospel in Germany as well as on U.S. soil.
Following his retirement, Maurice earned a degree from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. At the time of his death, he was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada. He had also previously worked as a senior operations analyst with the Republic Bank of Dallas and later as an automotive and management engineer for Irving Auto in Greenwood. In his spare time, Maurice enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycles and flying airplanes. He loved life and was blessed with the ability to strike up and carry on a conversation with anyone he met.
Survivors include, his wife, Becky Garrard Williamson; sons, Greg Williamson (Trinka) of Columbia, S.C., and Gary Williamson of Wetumpka, Ala.; sister, Janice Bailey of Guntersville, Ala., and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
