Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Mary Jane Scott Wright, 94, of Grenada, who died on Friday, April 4, in Grenada. Burial followed in Grenada Memorial Garden. The Rev. Rickey Harris officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, April 8, at McKibben and Guinn.
Mary Jane was born on Sept. 23, 1930, in Marks, the daughter of the late William Hackler and the late Ruth Mabry Scott. A devoted homemaker, Mary Jane diligently worked to do all she could to make her house a home. She also worked alongside her husband in their business, Wright’s Grocery, for many years. She enjoyed oil painting and fishing in her spare time, but, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Elbert Thomas Wright, and her brother, William Hackler “Bubba” Scott Jr., preceded Mary Jane in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Debbie Jane Porter of Kingsport, Tenn.; sons, Tommy Wright and Bill Wright (Denise), all of Grenada; sister, Carol Hall of Madison; seven grandchildren, Donnie Byford, Nicole Crocker, Shane Porter, Deandra Gibson, Ashley Gunter, Mary Frances Taylor and Eric Wright; 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Donnie Byford, Taylor Byford, Kylar Gibson, Rhett Gibson, Avery Gunter, Gabe Gunter, Cody Porter, Shane Porter and Jude Taylor.
