Football has been a sport that has been a part of Gabrial Greer’s life since he was old enough to play the game. He started off as a Pee Wee football player at Kirk Academy and has showed improvement as a player with age and maturity.
Recently, Greer received an e-mail concerning an All-Star football contest in Dallas, Texas, next month. He said the e-mail requested video clips of him in action. It wasn’t long after responding that the junior received correspondence concerning his selection to the Texas Offensive-Defensive Bowl Dec. 19-22, at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium, located in Arlington, Texas.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to play in this game,” Greer said. “It’s an opportunity to improve on my skills and learn what it takes to be a better player. The initial e-mail that I received said that Lamar Jackson, who plays with the Baltimore Ravens, and DeAndre Hopkins, who plays with the Arizona Cardinals, have played in this game.”
Greer played outside linebacker and defensive end for the Kirk Raiders this past fall. Defensive coordinator Stephen Crenshaw said he was one of his hardest workers on his defensive unit.
“Gabrial has worked hard since I arrived on campus in late June,” Crenshaw said. “He has a passion for the game of football and that shows in his preparation in the weight room, practice and his performance on the field.”
Greer’s junior year was one of challenges including an injury. Through it all, he was able to get back in the lineup.
“Gabrial continued to press on with a positive attitude in a season full of challenges,” Crenshaw said. “He pressed forward with his rehab and got himself back into the line up to help his team. We at Kirk Academy are very proud of this young man and impressed by his love for the sport. We look forward to seeing him make the most of this opportunity and are excited for the friendships he will make during his stay in Dallas. No doubt, he will represent Kirk and his family in a positive way and also be able to learn from some great coaches.”
Teams check-in to Dallas on Monday, Dec. 19, and take part in the opening ceremony and first practice, along with on the field training. The second day involves two practices and more on-field training. Players will then take part in a leadership seminar followed by a recruiting seminar. A youth game will take place that day.
The third day see two more practices, along with autographs and interviews for the players. The final day of activities close with a youth game and a high school contest. Awards and a closing ceremony will also take place.
