The Kirk Academy and Grenada High School Cross Country teams both took part in the Benton Academy Invitational. A total of 20 schools comprised of both public and private schools took part in the meet held last Monday at the Benton Academy golf course.
Ian McCullough paced the Chargers with a time of 21:16. Bryson Flowers turned in a time of 23:21 followed by Marcus Mallett at 23:36. Jack Leslie ran a 25:34 and Bowden Biddy turned in a time of 27:18. Jadon Beamer finished with a 29:19 in the 5K race.
On the girls side, Paris Hall had the top time for the Lady Chargers at 2:49. Micah Samples finished with a 34:57 and Taylor Swinford had a 35:00. Harlee Johnson had a 35:18.
“I thought both of our groups ran hard,” GHS coach Chris Miller said. “The course was on a golf course with hills. Most of our runners improved on their times from last week.”
Grenada returns to action on Sept. 29 traveling to Senatobia for a meet.
Kirk
The Kirk Academy squad also took part in the meet. The lone girl running was Charley Rose, who finished second in the junior varsity two-mile run with a time of 13:12.
Jack Cravens paced the Raiders in the junior varsity two-mile finishing 13th with a 14:29. Russ Mims had a 15:33, which was good for 25th. Will King was 26th turning in a time of 15:58. Cross Clark had a time of 18:07.
Braiden McElwrath was the long 5K participant running a 25:24.
Kirk was scheduled to take part in the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Invitational Monday. Results weren’t available as of press time.
