Hazardous winter weather in North Mississippi has forced Kirk Academy officials to cancel tonight’s opening night of the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class AAAA, District 1 Tournament. Games will now take place Thursday through Saturday.
“Several of our northern schools were out and it was dangerous for them to travel,” KA Athletic Director David Montgomery said Tuesday morning. “So out of concern for them, we moved Tuesday games to Thursday.”
The action begins at 4 p.m. Thursday with Marshall Academy girls facing Clarksdale-Lee. At 5:15 p.m., North Delta and Lee Academy of Clarksdale will meet in boys action followed at 6:30 p.m. by the North Delta and Oak Hill girls. The host Kirk Raiders face Oak Hill in boys action at 7:45 p.m.
Semifinal action will begin Friday at 4 p.m. with top-seeded girls team Rossville, Tenn., facing the winner of the North Delta and Oak Hill contest. The 5:15 p.m. contest features the top-seeded Rossville boys facing the winner of North Delta and Clarksdale Lee game. At 6:30 p.m., the Kirk Raiderettes face the winner of the Marshall and Clarksdale Lee contest. Action concludes at 7:45 p.m. the Marshall Academy boys, the second seed, facing the winner of the Kirk vs. Oak Hill contest.
Championship Saturday begins at 1 p.m. with the girls consolation followed by the boys consolation at 2:15 p.m. The girls championship begins at 3:30 p.m. followed by the boys championship at 4:45 p.m.
The Top 4 in each division move on to the North AAAA State Tournament, which begins next week at Lee Academy of Clarksdale.
