A Pink Out game has been a vision of Kirk Academy supporter and Grenada business owner Crystal Flautt for many years.
With her oldest son, Richard, finishing up his high school football career this season as one of the Raiders’ 22 seniors, Flautt figured there was no better time than the present to Pink Out Raider Field.
With that in mind, Flautt, owner of Pap’s Buffet & Steakhouse, donated pink jerseys lettered in white and navy for this Friday night’s contest against Greenville St. Joe.
“It’s going to be our first-ever Pink Out – totally pinked out – at Kirk Academy,” Flautt said. “October is a month for Breast Cancer Awareness, but I want to alert everybody of screenings that you can do all the time.”
Flautt, whose youngest son, Alex, is a sophomore on KA’s team, added that the game is considered a Pink Out in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month designated in October, however, she intends for Friday’s event to also recognize anyone who has battled any type of cancer.
“I just want to bring awareness; let’s take care of ourselves,” Flautt said. “Let’s slow down long enough, take a deep breath and take care of ourselves.”
In addition to the Raiders suiting up in pink for the cause, Lanterns of Love have also been sold and will lit and released into the night sky during halftime of the game, which also serves as Senior Night. The lanterns can be purchased in honor of someone that survived or lost the battle to any type of cancer for a donation of $20.
If you would like to purchase a lantern, you can do so by contacting Flautt at (662) 809-3925 or Lacy Hall at (662) 417-1049.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
