Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association's (TVEPA) system remains in excellent condition. However, due to the unusually frigid temperatures (single digits), there is a higher demand, which will continue overnight. To maintain a manageable energy load, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is seeking voluntary load reductions at this time.
When temperatures go down in the winter, power demand and energy bills go up. Below are some great ways you can save energy and money:
• Lower your thermostat to 68°F or a temperature that is both comfortable and safe.
• Set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise, which pushes warm air down.
• Wear additional layers and bundle up to stay warm.
• Turn off everything when you leave a room. Avoid using small space heaters as they use the most energy.
• Open window coverings on the sunny side of your home to use natural light. Close them overnight to retain that heat.
• Delay using washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, and other large appliances until the warmest part of the day (when overall heating demand is lower).
Every little bit helps. Small conservation efforts can have a big impact when our TVEPA members come together. By implementing conservation now, we can avoid the extra strain and possible outages overnight.
According to TVEPA officials, the company does not have any planned or rolling outages scheduled.
