Grenada resident Beverly Reans, who works as a United States Postal Service mail carrier based out of Greenwood, is recovering at home after being hospitalized following a pit bull attack, while delivering mail on her route last Thursday morning.
Greenwood Police Chief Terrence Craft told “The Greenwood Commonwealth” that Reans was attacked by the dog at 400 block of McConnell St., in Baptist Town. He said the dog’s owner, Alice Leflore, told officers she was not home at the time of the incident and had let the dog outside to eat and exercise.
According to her husband, Mike Reans, Beverly has worked with the United States Postal Service for 15 years. She has also delivered mail in Arkansas. He said that his wife underwent surgery last Friday for a wound vacuum. She remained hospitalized waiting on a home health vacuum and was released from the hospital earlier this week. He added that she will undergo skin graft surgery in a couple of weeks to help her wounds heal.
The Reans’ moved to Grenada in 2009, when he was named Headmaster at Kirk Academy. They maintained their residence when he took over as basketball coach and Headmaster at Riverfield Academy in Rayville, La. Reans returned to Kirk last year for one season as boys basketball coach and high school principal at the school. He currently serves at Lee Academy in Clarksdale as basketball coach.
The incident remains under investigation.
