Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada for Mr. Larry A. Pickle, 74, of Grenada, who died on Thursday, May 15, in Oxford. Burial followed in Grenada Memorial Garden. The Rev. Tim McCaffrey and the Rev. Sherman Barnette officiated.
Larry was born on Nov. 14, 1950, in Grenada, the son of the late Connie Lee and the late Winnie Lee Smith Pickle. A proud patriot with a deep love for his country, he honorably served in the United States Army as a military policeman. Following his military service, Larry built a successful career as a truck driver, dedicating more than 30 years to AAA Cooper Transportation.
Larry lived a life marked by faith, service and love for his family. As a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church, he exemplified the heart of a servant, always ready to lend a hand and support his church community in any way needed. His faith was the foundation of his life and he lived it out through quiet strength and humble service.
Known as the cherished patriarch of his family, Larry took immense pride in supporting and encouraging his grandchildren, never missing a chance to be present in their lives and activities. His love and guidance will be remembered for generations. A gifted storyteller, Larry had an extraordinary ability to captivate those around him, filling every room with laughter, wisdom and warmth. His presence was a gift to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church family and all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Lena Pickle Dowdle and Faye Pickle Walls, and his brothers, C.D. Pickle and J.W. Pickle, preceded Larry in death.
Survivors include, his loving wife, Dorothy Lee Pickle; sons, Jeff Pickle (Lisa) and Tracey Pickle; two sisters, Paula Pickle Prewitt and Bernice Pickle Newman; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Samy McCracken, accompanied by Larry’s nephews, honored Larry by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Grenada Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Gideons International.
