Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, at Bradford Chapel Baptist Church in Gore Springs for Mrs. Katie Sue Patterson, 84, of Gore Springs, who died on Sunday, Jan. 15, in Calhoun City. She was laid to rest in Bradford Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Gore Springs. The Rev. Jon Haimes officiated.
Katie was born on June 3, 1938, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Peskie Martin and the late Thelma Marter Clanton. She was a bus driver and teacher assistant at Eupora Schools for many years, and enjoyed getting to work with children. She drove bus No. 9 down many miles of Webster County roads, and told many stories of her days and the community children along her route.
Katie enjoyed joking with people and playing Rook where she was known to cheat a little. She struggled after losing her husband, “Jerry” Dean Patterson Sr., of 56 years in 2019, but was at home until she got COVID and had to go to the hospital in 2020, where she had to stay by herself for the first time in her life. Post COVID, she was not able to return to her home and lived out the remainder of her life at the Calhoun County Nursing Home where she said that everyone was so nice to her, the food was good, but they gave her too much, and she felt safe.
In addition to her parents and husband, three brothers, Jack Clanton, Doyle Clanton and Gayle Clanton, and an infant sister, Dorothy Dell, preceded Katie in death.
Survivors include, her son, Jerry “Dean” Patterson Jr. (Susan) of Gore Springs; daughter, Kay Parker (Larry Wayne) of Oxford; four granddaughters, Amelia Parker, Laura Patterson, Rachel Patterson and Sarah Patterson and one grandson, Landon Parker.
Pallbearers were Landon Parker, Sam Marter, Wayne Clanton, Barry Clanton, Tony Wayne Clanton and Brent Dixon.
