Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Grenada for Mr. John William “J.W.” Abel, 77, of Grenada, who died on Friday, May 16, at his residence. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. The Rev. Zach Sanford and Dr. Jim Nunnelee officiated. The family received friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday, May 19, at First Baptist Church in Grenada.
J.W. was born on Dec. 20, 1947, in Carrollton, the son of the late William “Bill” and the late Edith McCluskey Abel. He owned several businesses in the area including Abel’s Used Cars. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada and also served with Gideons International. A man deeply devoted to his family, J.W. cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his son, Johnny Abel, preceded J.W. in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Linda Abel; daughter, Natalie Abel Kimbrough (Robert) of Grenada and three grandchildren, Case Kimbrough, Keeton Kimbrough and Robbie Kimbrough.
Johnny Allen, Jermol Brock, Jimmy Brock, Jerry Brooks, Dennis Holley, Ken Holley, Neal Marlow and Justin Ward served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Grant, Jeff Little and Tim Little.
