Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. John Larry Moorman, 76, of Grenada, who died on Monday, Jan. 23, at his son’s residence. Burial followed in Smith Cemetery in Tallahatchie County. The Rev. Hal Bates officiated.
John was born on Sept. 17, 1946, in Tallahatchie County, the son of the late Elmer Fletcher and the late Allie Mae Huddleston Moorman. He honorably served our country in the United States Army and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. John worked as an agriculture teacher in the Lafayette and Grenada school districts prior to his retirement.
In his spare time, John enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a dedicated genealogist having traced his – and others’ – lineage back for many generations. Above all, John was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and had faithfully served as a deacon in the Southern Baptist Church. While we mourn his death, we also celebrate his life and know that his faith has now become sight.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Kerron Briscoe Moorman; four sisters, Myrtle Moorman, Ocean Hand, Mildred Martin and Bonnie Pyburn, and five brothers, James Clifton Moorman, J.T. Moorman, Arnold Moorman, Joe Moorman and Dewey Moorman, preceded John in death.
Survivors include, his sons, Fletcher Moorman (Becky) and Mark Moorman (Amanda), all of Grenada; two sisters, Imogene Williamson of Scobey and Mary Frances Moorman of Grenada; five brothers, W.T. Moorman, Mac Moorman, Paul Moorman, Raymond Moorman and Stewart Moorman, all of Grenada and four grandchildren, Shelby Moorman, Carrie Moorman, Abe Moorman and Anna Moorman.
Pallbearers were Jerry Gilliland, Ronnie Hand, Abe Moorman, Eddie Moorman, Jason Moorman, Ricky Williamson Sr., Ricky Williamson Jr. and Stanley Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Bloodworth’s Breakroom Crew.
