Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, in the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for John C. Milam, 80, of Grenada, who died on Wednesday, June 7, at his residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
John was born on Sept. 27, 1942, in Grenada, the son of the late Curtis Easley Milam and the late Catherine Mitchell Milam. He was employed by the United States Postal Service where he worked as a mailman and then as a supervisor until his retirement. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada.
John was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and served as an electronics engineer for radio systems onboard ships going up and down the Saigon River. After his service in the Navy, John served in the Army National Guard until his retirement at the rank of First Sergeant. He truly loved his country.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Glenda Milam; one sister, Kay Hubbard, and two brothers, Curtis Milam Jr. and Jerry Milam, preceded John in death.
Survivors include, his daughters, Kathryn “Kim” Haley, Joan Moss, Sandra Patterson and Christy Passer; one sister, Birkie Nita Smith; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 245 Meadowbrook Rd., Grenada, MS 38901.
