Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville for Mrs. Jean Breedlove Fly, 88, of Coffeeville, who died on Friday, March 7, in Oxford. Burial followed in Coffeeville Cemetery. The Rev. Craig Baker officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday, March 9, at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville.
Born in Charleston to the late Christel and the Maifred Upchurch Breedlove, Mrs. Fly dedicated her life to education and music. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Delta State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi. As a first-grade teacher, she inspired and enriched the lives of countless students over her remarkable 33-year career in the Yalobusha County School System.
An accomplished musician who cherished worship music, Mrs. Fly shared her talent generously, teaching private piano lessons after her retirement. A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Grenada and previously of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville, she actively participated in the choir and embraced various roles within the congregation.
Mrs. Fly took great joy in reconnecting with former students and celebrating their achievements. Her enthusiasm for attending her grandchildren’s activities showcased her deep love for family. Her loving spirit will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Billy Gerald Fly, and two sisters, Maxine Cox and Christine Goering, preceded Mrs. Fly in death.
Survivors include, two daughters, Renee Meyer (Russ) of Palm City, Fla., and Rachel Mixon (Heath) of Grenada; two sons, Jerry Fly and Jeff Fly (Lisa), all of Grenada; seven grandchildren, Kayleen Powell, Mary Jones, Katie Morgan, Katelyn Lane, Anna Grace Lane, Molly Lane and Gage Mixon and four great grandchildren.
Troy Campbell, Mike Coleman, Triston Jones, Gage Mixon, Hunter Morgan and Tanner Powell honored Mrs. Fly by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in Coffeeville Cemetery.
