Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Grenada for Mrs. India Crowder Maner, 87, of Grenada, who died on Monday, May 19, at her residence. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, May 22, at the church.
India was born on Feb. 28, 1938, in Grenada, the daughter of the late William Harris Crowder and the late Leeta Buskirk. She was a teacher as well as a missionary for 25 years in Brazil where she taught at the Bible Institute. She was also an elder at the Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, James Maner, preceded India in death.
Survivors include, her son, William Maner of Clinton; daughters, Stephanie Thayer of Grenada and Elizabeth Maner of Franklin, Tenn.; brother, William Harris Crowder II of Jackson and eight grandchildren.
Emile Thayer, Liam Thayer, Corbin Thayer, Causey Maner and Shaw Maner served as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Bible Society or the Gideons.
