Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Gwendale “Pete” Briscoe, 90, of Scobey, who died on Friday, March 3, at his daughter’s residence. Burial will follow in Scobey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, March 8, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Pete was born on Oct. 12, 1932, in Scobey, the son of the late Guy Dewitt Briscoe and the late Pearl Keeton Briscoe. He was employed by the Mississippi Department of Transportation as an equipment operator until his retirement. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Juanita Sicurella, Frances Spears and Gwendolyn Briscoe, and two brothers, Guy Dewitt Briscoe Jr. and James Briscoe, preceded Pete in death.
Survivors include, his daughter, Gloria Marie Hollis of Grenada; sons, Jimmy Dale Briscoe of Grenada and Barry Lynn Briscoe of Southaven; three grandchildren, Corey Lee Nester, Ashley Nicole Overley and Pete Gwendale Briscoe, and one great grandson, Christopher Dale Overley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
