Just a month deep into the season, the Grenada Middle Lady Chargers softball team have played a total of eight games, winning six of them.
New Hope
On Feb. 20, the Lady Chargers split road games with New Hope losing 5-4 and winning 3-1.
In Game 1, the Lady Trojans made a five-run first inning stand up after Grenada scored three runs in the first inning.
Paige Cook paced the four-hit attack with a double. Kendall Trimble finished with a single and two run, scored. Timya Taylor and Blakely Jenkins each added a hit with Jenkins driving in two runs.
Olivia Watson was the losing pitcher.
In Game 2, a double from Olivia Watson gave the Lady Chargers a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Starting pitcher Olivia Deason plate run with a ground out in the second inning making it 2-0.
After the Lady Trojans rallied to within 2-1, GMS used a single from Timya Taylor to make it 3-1. Quinn Deason was the winning pitcher.
Oxford
On Feb. 17, Game 1 was a battle of errors and walks that ended in a 10-10 tie.
Adalyn Slaughter and Paige Cook each had a hit to lead GMS.
The Lady Chargers opened Game 2 with five runs in the first inning. Lexie Burton had a two-run single in the inning to go with bases loaded walks from Kaleigh Reed and Khloe Jackson. In the second, Jackson tripled to make it 8-1, which was the final score.
Quinn Deason was the winning pitcher with 3 innings of work, allowing one hit and an unearned run.
Caledonia
The Lady Chargers hosted Caledonia in a doubleheader on Feb. 13, winning Game 1 by a 4-1 count and losing the nightcap, 6-2.
In the opener, Grenada scored three runs in the second inning to pick up the win. Olivia Watson drove home a run with a single and Lauren Kendall added a two-run single. The final run scored in the third inning on a triple from Kristen Jackson.
Olivia Watson picked up the win, allowing one hit and an unearned run to go with one walk and 3 strikeouts.
In Game 2, Caledonia scored four runs in the first inning en route to the win. The Lady Cavaliers out GMS 6-2 to earn the split of the doubleheader. Ally Montgomery, Paige Cook and Kyler Morris each had a single.
Quinn Deason was the losing pitcher (1 inning, 4 hits, 4 runs, 4 earned runs, 3 walks, strikeout).
Lafayette
The Lady Chargers opened the season Feb. 10 with a home sweep of Lafayette by scores of 11-0 and 9-5.
In Game 1, GMS scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning.Ally Montgomery tripled in two runs. Blakely Jenkins singled in a run, while McKinley Tucker drove in two runs with a single.
Quinn Deason’s groundout in the second inning gave GMS a 6-0 advantage. The Lady Chargers added five additional runs in the third to account for the final margin.
Olivia Watson had two-run double, while Jenkins singled in a pair of runs. The final run in the inning scored on an error.
Olivia Watson was the winning pitcher allowing just 3 hits, while walking one and striking out 4.
In Game 2, Grenada took advantage of 10 walks from Lafayette pitching to win a 9-5 advantage.
