The Grenada High School football Chargers were in Louisville last Friday night for their final tuneup before the season opener at Horn Lake Friday. Coach Ashley Kuhn sent his 12th GHS tram to the field for a full two-quarter scrimmage against the Class 4A Louisville Wildcats. The Chargers came up on the short end of a 7-0 verdict.
“I thought defensively, other than a couple of big plays, we did okay,” Kuhn said. “I thought we tackled well. The offense was behind the chains thanks to some bad snaps and dealt with some dropped passes throughout the jamboree.”
Despite the final score, Kuhn thought the jamboree was a good experience for his football team.
“We got out of the jamboree injury-free,” he said. “Our guys got snaps in against a quality football team.”
Grenada opens the season this Friday night as they journey into DeSoto County to take on Horn Lake. The two teams met in Grenada last season with the Chargers winning a 14-8 decision. Grenada has two members of last year’s coaching staff that are members of the staff this season at Grenada. Mitchell Harville and Andrew Whyte are members of the staff this season at Grenada.
Horn Lake is coached now by former Green Bay Packers player Brandon Jackson. The Eagles lost a 34-0 decision in a two-quarter scrimmage at Tupelo last weekend.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Horn Lake. The Mississippi High School Activities Association voted that games would start through the end of September at this time.
