Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Fred Lawrence “Pat” Ruth, 94, of Grenada, who died on Thursday, April 3, at his residence. Burial with military honors followed in the Ruth Family Plot in Lambert Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Danny Williams officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, April 8, at McKibben and Guinn.
Mr. Ruth was born on Jan. 16, 1931, in Lambert, the son of the late Albert Monroe and the late Pauline Brannon Ruth. He honorably served our country in the Army Air Corps — known today as the United States Air Force — where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Ruth was a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchisee in Mississippi for more than 57 years, a feat he was quite proud of. He enjoyed pheasant hunting in South Dakota, constructing model airplanes, traveling and was always ready to watch a good Western on TV. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Betty Selby Ruth; two daughters, Jan Ruth Foote and Donna Ruth Ackman, and one son, Fred L. “Larry” Ruth Jr., preceded Mr. Ruth in death.
Survivors include, one son, Al Ruth (Amy) of Rogers, Ark.; his sisters, Dottie Hawkins of Marks, Betty Lou Beam of Rena Lara, Linda Peeples of Charleston and Pam Monks of Waxhaw, N.C.; six grandchildren, Anna Lauren Ackman, Selby Ackman Turner, Patrick Allen Foote, Jackson Sterling Ruth, Reese Smith and Riley Smith and one great grandchild, Emmett Allen Turner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church in Grenada.
