Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at North Shady Grove Church of God in Cascilla for Mrs. Evelyn Pearl Minga Winters, 76, of Cascilla, who entered her heavenly home on Saturday, Feb. 15, in Grenada. Burial followed in North Shady Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Hill, the Rev. Bubba Jones and the Rev. Eric Hess officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the church.
Evelyn was born on May 18, 1948, in Avalon, the daughter of the late Johnny and the late Inez Goss Minga. A devoted homemaker, Evelyn was gifted in all areas of making her house a home. Sewing, baking and cooking delicious meals for her family that she so deeply loved were among her finest qualities. Above all, she was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and loved spending time in the Word. She found great solace in the fellowship and worship with other believers at Trinity and Bethel Holiness churches.
In addition to her parents, two sons, Scottie Gene Winters and Michael Lewis Winters; her brother, Johnny Minga Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Helen Winters, preceded Evelyn in death.
Survivors include, her husband of 59 ½ years, Charlie Gene Winters; daughters, Tammy Winters and Jennifer Winters, both of Cascilla; one son, Jeremy Winters (Penny) of Cascilla; sister, Sue Newcomb of Cascilla; eight grandchildren, Michael Winters (Maria), Heather Winters, Mason Winters, Kayla Jones (Matt), Jared Winters, Parker, Paisley and Piper Greer; four great grandchildren, Presley Morgan, Alayna Morgan, Owen Jones and Hannah Winters, and a host of in-laws that treated her like she was their own sister.
Mike Cooper, Brandon Hyde, Mike Hyde, Allen Kendall, Quint Rideout and Michael Winters honored Evelyn by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in North Shady Grove Cemetery. Robert Franklin, Jimmy Kendall, Ray Kendall and L.Q. Weston served as honorary pallbearers.
