Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada for Bettye Beckett, 83, of Grenada, who died on Friday, April 4, in Grenada. Bro. Jeremy McMahan officiated. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home in Grenada.
Bettye was born on Dec. 10, 1941, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Thomas Guinn Williams and the late Lucille McMahan Williams. She was employed by Commercial Credit in Grenada as a clerk and cashier until her retirement. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada since 1966.
In addition to her parents, her first husband, Lemuel Caviness Beckett, and her companion of 23 years, Charles Costilow, preceded Bettye in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Patricia Beckett Hughes, Cindy Beckett Sultan, Lisa Beckett Clanton (Roger) and Scarlett Beckett Montgomery (Sean); brother, John Thomas “T-Bone” Williams; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jake Beckett, Dane Bevell, Logan McDaniel, Jamie Fortier, Tommy Williams and Joe Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Braxton McDaniel, Brice McDaniel, Jaxon Bliven, Thomas Fortier, Holland Adams and Brooks Fortier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
