Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Betty Jane Maxey, 91, of Grenada, who died on Monday, Feb. 17, in Grenada. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery in Oxberry. The Rev. Jerry McNeer and the Rev. Rick Shepherd officiated.
Betty was born on Nov. 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Thomas Dewitt Organ and the late Amanda Carolyn Jackson. She was a devoted nurse with a career spanning more than 30 years. She retired from St. Dominic Hospital in 1996, where she had served as nurse manager on the cardiac floor.
Betty will be remembered for her devotion to her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Her most prized possession was her beloved dog, Snoopy. She was a member of Holcomb Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, David Maxey; one daughter, Melody Little; her son, David Maxey Jr.; one grandson, Bob Hood; her sisters, Margie Harris and Vivian Hood, and her brothers, Granville Organ, Thomas Organ and Edward Organ, preceded Betty in death.
Survivors include, her three daughters, Amanda Winters (Jessie) of Grenada, Kimberly Thimmes (Patrick) of Grenada and Susan Mansfield (Mike) of Holcomb; six grandchildren, Jessica Winters, Matt Winters (Renee), William Thimmes, Lauren Thimmes, Cheryl Waters (Shane) and Crystal Osborne (Richard); 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Bill Lindley, Richard Osborne, William Thimmes, Patrick Thimmes, Shane Waters and Matt Winters. Honorary pallbearers were Jake Hood, Talon Hood, Harry Lott, Mike Mansfield, Caleb McNeer, Talon Waters and Jessie Winters
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to her devoted caregiver, Jenny Longstreet, for the dignified and loving care that she provided to Mrs. Maxey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Holcomb Methodist Church.
