The Givens Executive Leadership Institute Class of 2021-22 is planning to help brighten up Christmas throughout the City of Grenada after selecting its class project in late September.
According to Vonetta Roseman, president of the eight-member Leadership Class sponsored by the Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce, the class unanimously agreed to take a leadership role in the Chamber’s newly launched Christmas Community Lighting Project. Class members will serve as project elves as they work to help it grow into an attraction not only Grenada residents anticipate, but families from nearby areas plan to visit each year.
The Chamber launched the project last year, selling eight sponsored lighted Christmas scenes, which were placed at the intersections of Highways 8 and 51. The goal for members of the Class of 2021-22 is to increase the number of lighted scenes assembled each year by soliciting local companies, businesses, churches and organizations to cover the one-time cost for additional scenes. A variety of scenes are available for sponsorship.
Last year’s participants include, Regions Bank, Guaranty Bank, Perm “R” Products, Grenada State Bank, Entergy, MS Freight, Grenada Railroad and The Pentecostals of Grenada. Signs were placed next to each sponsored Christmas scene displaying the donor’s name.
Not only will the Class of 2021-22 aid the Chamber in increasing the number of lighted scenes, it will also assist in the installation, storage and maintenance process.
“The Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce and this year’s 2021-22 Givens Leadership Class will be responsible each year for set up and take down, storage and management of each Christmas scene ordered through the chamber for the life of the scene,” Chamber Director Damon Tipton, who is also a member of the Leadership Class serving as reporter, said.
