Local COVID skyrockets

The number of Coronavirus cases in Grenada County has shot up to 355, new figures show.
According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, at press time Monday, Grenada had 355 reported cases, up from the 296 reported Sunday. Grenada County is shown to now have five deaths related to the virus.
According to MSHD, Grenada County had the sixth highest COVID-19 incidences in the state for June 15 -21, a one week period.  The department of health shows that Grenada County had 18 cases that week.
MSDH listed two long-term care facilities with ongoing outbreaks: Grenada Living Center and Grenada Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
A total of 21 cases have been reported in Grenada’s long term care facilities, and last week, virus testing took place at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Grenada.
According to Dodie McElmurray, CEO of UMMC Grenada there are currently two positive patients being treated for COVID at the hospital.
One area affected by COVID – 19 is the Grenada County jail, and according to the correctional leaders, several staffers there have tested positive, including the warden.
