Sally McCrary Carson

Mrs. Sally McCrary Carson of Winona died Friday, June 5, 2020, at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada.

Mrs. Carson, 81, was born in Montgomery County on Oct. 11, 1938, to Forrest Emmett and Ruby Lou Donahoo McCrary. She was a retired nurse with Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona and was a member of First Baptist Church in Winona. Mrs. Carson was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Winston “Wimpy” Carson.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Carson Crawford of Flowood and Becky Carson Sims of Isola; one son Ronnie Carson of Grenada; one sister Helen Malone of McCarley; two brothers, Charles McCrary of Winona and Reece McCrary of McCarley; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held Sunday, June 7, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Mission Baptist Church Cemetery near Winona. Visitation was also Sunday.

Jack Holland Curry

Mr. Jack Holland Curry, 79, of Holcomb, died Thursday, June 4, 2020, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McKibben and Guinn.

Rose Davis

On Friday June 5, 2020, Mrs. Rose Davis passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father.

She was born March 28, 1940, in Alva to Tom and Clara Thornburg. She married her husband Joe Davis on Dec. 31, 1959. When they moved from Southaven to Kissimmee, Fla., she spent many years as a waitress. She also owned her own bakery for a time as well as a daycare. All these jobs involved the thing that she loved most, which was being around people. When she moved home to Mississippi, she spent a lot of time in the kitchen baking with her granddaughters while listening to oldies on the radio, and cooking for her family. She always looked forward to herSunday dinners with those she loved.

Mrs. Davis is survived by daughter Darla Mitchell (Kenny) of Duck Hill, sons Joe Davis (Joyce) of St. Cloud, Fla., and Jerry Davis (Michelle) of St. Cloud, Fla.; grandchildren Allison McGee (Matt) of Duck Hill, Angela Cox (Caleb) of Madison, Kris Whitten (William) of Tupelo, TJ Mitchell (Kayla) of Duck Hill, Megan Roberts of Live Oak, Fla., Jennifer Brannon (Mike) of St. Cloud, Fla., Kayla Howard (Wesley) of Georgia, Karlie Heatherly (Jimmy) of Georgia, Creighton Davis (Kayla) of Georgia and 16 great-grandchildren; brother Johnny (Sarah) Thornburg of Rickman, Tenn., and sisters Martha Rogers of Eupora, Margaret Griffin of Grenada and Sue Sloane (Doug) of Washington.

She is preceded in death by her husband, sister Lillian Geter, and brother William “Bill” Thornburg.

Pallbearers will be Matt McGee, Caleb Cox, TJ Mitchell, Robby Roberts, Louis Ray and Jeff Chamblee.

Her family would like to thank Solaris Healthcare and all of their workers for taking such good care of their mom and Nana for the past two years, and Vitas Hospice, who helped make her last days those of peace and comfort. Mrs. Jewel Kitchens, 87, of Byram, died Monday, June 8, 2020, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McKibben and Guinn.

James Sidney ‘Jimmy’ McClain

Sept. 5, 1938 – June 3, 2020 – Funeral services for James Sidney “Jimmy” McClain of North Carrollton were Friday, June 5, at North Carrollton Baptist Church, with burial following in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.

The Rev. Lanny Haley officiated the services. Pallbearers were Jim Howard, Jerry Shaw, Chris McClain, Ronnie Smith, Tim McBride, Randy Smith, Hal McClain and Mitchell Costilow. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Donald Shelton, Larry McClain, Jerry McClain, Kenny McClain, Dale McClain, Jerry McClain, Zackary McClain, Trevor McClain, and Chase Marlow. Visitation was also Friday.

Mr. McClain, 81, passed away at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.

He was born in McCarley on Sept. 5, 1938, and was the son of the late Percy Redditt and John Winnie Robertson McClain. He was a retired electrical engineer and surveyor and a member of North Carrollton Baptist Church. Mr. McClain was also preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur Edward McClain, Harold Redditt McClain and John Daniel McClain.

Mr. McClain is survived by his wife Judith Hooks “Judy” McClain; his daughter Beth McClain McLendon; son Tim McClain (Daphne); seven grandchildren, Nikki Newsom (Jeff), Zack McClain, Trevor McClain, Ann-Marie Edwards (Clint), Shay Marlow, Caylon Marlow and Chase Marlow; nine great-grandchildren, Adyson Marlow, Brody Newsom, Addison Newsom, Abbigail Newsom, Kaylie Marlow, Kylie Marlow, Jagger McClain, Corey McClain, and Brantley Edwards.
