The Grenada NFL tree added fruit Friday night.
Former GHS, East Mississippi CC and Miss. State standout Tyre Phillips got the call that will change his life.
Phillips, who didn’t play football until his senior season in high school, will take his talents to the National Football League. The Baltimore Ravens notified him around midnight of his selection in the third round by the organization.
“That phone call changed my life,” Phillips said. “I can’t put into words my feelings right now. I want to thank the Ravens for showing confidence in me by drafting me. I’m ready to get up there and get to work.”
He joins fellow Charger, Genard Avery, in the league. Avery was drafted in the fifth round by Cleveland after a stellar career at the University of Memphis. He was traded to Philadelphia midway through the 2019 season. Other Grenadians that played in the NFL or were drafted include Greg Robinson and Jake Gibbs
