Cleon McAlpine Jr.

Mr. Cleon McAlpine Jr., 84, of Duck Hill, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020, at his residence.
He was born March 24, 1935, in Inverness to Cleon and Edna Terilla Streeter McAlpine. Mac worked for over 35 years as a truck driver and was a faithful member of Stonefield Church of God. He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, cherished brother and dependable neighbor and friend.
Funeral services were, Wednesday, March 4, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with the Rev. Steve Bullion and the Rev. Mark Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Stonefield Church of God Cemetery at Cascilla. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Wednesday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bratton McAlpine of Duck Hill; two daughters, Cathy Hennecke of Long Grove, Okla., and Wendy Clabaugh (Wayne) of Blacksburg, S.C.; two sons, Frank McAlpine (Allise) of Byhalia and Steve McAlpine (Rocio) of Magnolia, Texas; one sister, Nadine Hall of Honorville, Ala.; one brother Billy McAlpine of Starke, Fla.; one step-daughter, Teresa Rivers; one step-son, Steve Perry; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and his beloved pet, “Daisy May.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Opal Daniels and Maxine Dupree; four brothers, James Harold, Curtis, Earl and Tommy McAlpine; and a granddaughter, Priscilla McAlpine.

Odie Bacon

Funeral services for Odie Bacon of Grenada, formerly of Holmes County,  are Saturday at 1 p.m. at  S.V. Marshall High School in Tchula.
Mr. Bacon died on Feb. 24, 2020, He was born on Sept. 6, 1956.

Marion Andrea Garner

Funeral services for Madison Andrea Garner are Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Abundant Life Assembly of the Apostolic Faith Church with burial in Haven Rest Cemetery.
Miss Garner, 7 months, died at Children of Alabama Hospital on March 3, 2020. She was born on July 12, 2019.
Miss Garner is survived by her parents, Deatice Garner Jr. and D’Ashley Cohen Garner.

Thomas Edward Marion

Funeral services for Thomas Edward Marion of Duck Hill, formerly of Memphis, are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Church in Duck Hill with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Marion, 84, died of natural causes at the UMMC Jackson on Feb. 27, 2020. He was born on May 17, 1935. Mr. Marion was a retired Army veteran and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and cooking.
Mr. Marion is survived by his wife Ollie M. Marion; two daughters, Kathy Lodge and Meka Marion, both of Jackson;  and two sons, Dexter Marion of Conyers, Ga., and Stanley Marion of Covington, Ga.

James Wesley Whitaker

James Wesley Whitaker II, 78, died Feb. 25, 2020, at the Grenada Living Center.
Mr. Whitaker was born on May 10, 1941, to the late Elmer Whitaker and Lottie Edna Smith Whitaker in Earle, Ark. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy and worked as an industrial manager. James was of the Baptist faith. He was the widower of Emily Alta Bilbrey Whitaker. They were married for 54 years.
Survivors include his children, Cynthia Caffey (Kenneth), Andrea Lynn “Susie” Whitaker Lucius, and James Wesley “Jim” Whitaker III (Lucy) all of Grenada; three sisters, Evelyn Donahue of Florida, Martha DeBeare of Rockford, Ill., and Linda Mitchell of Grenada; brother Steven Whitaker of Alaska; nine grandchildren, Christina Hood, Stephanie Moore, Samantha Brown, Jeffery Robinson, Jessica Robinson Brown, Justin Robinson, James Wesley Whitaker IV, Karron Whitaker, and Lilith Alice Winters; and 10 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife, James is preceded in death by one daughter Rhonda Kay Whitaker; two siblings, Carroll Whitaker and Marvin Whitaker; and one great-grandson, Jerry Lee Whitaker Smith.
